Just Kits was founded in the summer of 1981 by the present proprietor. In the early days, the shop sold only hobby kits covering a range of crafts and hobbies, hence the name, ‘Just Kits’. At that time the shop was located at Hessle, just outside the City of Hull.
Over the year’s, the business developed into a much more specialist high street model shop with Radio Controlled cars being it’s main R/C discipline, supporting the local race club in Hull, with Plastic Kits etc., and only a small amount of R/C Aircraft and Boats.
The business was building nicely at a time when online sales did not exist.
We expanded the business with a second model shop, this time at the present location on Hessle Road, Hull. We sold the R/C cars at Hessle and specialized in R/C aeroplanes and helicopters at the Hessle Road shop. Business was starting to boom.
We decided to close the original Hessle shop and centralized everything at Hessle Road.
Moving on. In 2008 the world suffered a Global financial Crisis which effected many small businesses and caused some to go out of business. It was at this time that we decided to expand the Hessle Road premises enabling us to come out of the 2008 financial crisis in a stronger position than some.
With the ever increasing on-line sales and Amazon, it has been a challenge to survive on the high street, particularly in the niche market place. Model shops fall into this category.
We are proud to have managed to survive in this business being one of only a hand-full of model shops left in the North East of England.
